Killai, Cuddalore: Residents of the Killai town panchayat in Cuddalore district celebrated the Tamil harvest festival of Pongal with traditional fervor, marked by a vibrant Kummi dance performance. The event, held under the leadership of Advocate Killai Ravindran, a member of the DMK Executive Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Killai Town Panchayat, saw enthusiastic participation from local women.
The Kummi dance, a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu typically performed in a circle with rhythmic clapping, was a central part of the festivities. As they danced, the women vocalized praises for the various welfare schemes introduced by the “Dravidian Model Chief Minister,” the Honourable M.K. Stalin.
A key focus of their appreciation was the schemes specifically designed for the empowerment and benefit of women. The participants highlighted the positive impact of these initiatives on their lives, particularly mentioning a new scheme aimed at supporting women pursuing higher education.
The celebration served as both a cultural observance of Pongal and a public expression of support and gratitude towards the state government and its efforts for women’s welfare.
