Based on social media reports, a video has surfaced showing allegations of corruption within the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), commonly known as the 100-day work scheme, in Prithivimangalam Panchayat near Kallakurichi. The video, which has gone viral, features the Panchayat Vice President questioning a work site supervisor about discrepancies in worker attendance.
According to reports, the Vice President of Prithivimangalam Panchayat, in the Thiyagathurugam block of Kallakurichi district, visited a 100-day work scheme site and examined the attendance registers. The Vice President reportedly discovered that while records indicated 160 workers should be present, only 60 to 70 individuals were actually at the work site.
In the video, the Vice President is seen confronting the work site supervisor, questioning how such irregularities could occur. The supervisor, in response, claimed to be merely a daily wage worker and stated that they were only following lists provided by the Panchayat President’s husband for assigning work. The supervisor reportedly disclaimed any personal responsibility for the alleged discrepancies, suggesting they were simply executing instructions.
The Panchayat Vice President further questioned the supervisor, referencing their previous visits to work sites. When asked if the Vice President had visited the site before, bystanders confirmed that the Vice President had visited twice. The Vice President then asserted that on both previous occasions, irregularities were also discovered.
This video has rapidly spread across social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion and raising concerns about the implementation and oversight of the 100-day work scheme in Prithivimangalam Panchayat. The incident has reportedly caused significant stir in the region, prompting calls for further investigation into the alleged corruption.
